Re: ITT GENERAL CONTROLS HYDRAMOTOR GAS "V710" VALVES

Please be advised of a potential problem with ITT General Control hydramotor gas valves with V710 valve bodies.

The Oklahoma Department of Labor’s investigation into an October 1999 boiler explosion discovered a deteriorated o-ring seal on the V710 valve disc in two separate valve units. The V710 valve (which may have possibly contributed to the October 1999 incident) was manufactured in 1977. The V710 valve in the second unit was manufactured in 1984. The possibility exists that this o-ring seal might become lodged between the seat and disc allowing gas to leak through the closed valve.

As a safety precaution, the Oklahoma Department of Labor recommends that boilers equipped with these valves have a licensed boiler repair firm check and verify the condition of these valves. A pressure test might not reveal the problem so we further recommend the seal be visually inspected.

All inquiries should be directed to (405) 528-1500 ext. 243 or telephone ODOL toll-free statewide at 1-888-269-5353 ext. 243.
